Trendy Endy series by Studio VE celebrates nature

The Stockholm Design Week always has many interesting projects on display. Many artists instill such creativity and individuality into their design that it is simply astounding. The Endy Series from Studio Ve is particularly eye-catching with its play on lines and shapes. It was exhibited at Stockholm Design Week, and invoked praise at the Stockholm furniture and light fair 2012.

ENDY BY STUDIO VE

The art piece consists of a stool, chair and coffee table constructed from recycled materials. Instead of buying wood, Endy collected leftover timber ends to construct the three pieces of ‘endy series’.

The timber’s ends are regarded as the most sensitive parts of the timber and are susceptible to outside elements. To protect the wood, in the sawmills, they are given a coat of paint that also seals and covers up the splits in the wood. After use, the colored ends of the timber are usually separated and discarded. However, Endy has decided to keep the original form of the timber. Through emphasis on the origins of the wood and conservation of its rough outlines, the artist hopes to influence people to comprehend the beauty of untainted shapes.

One cannot help admire the artist’s ability to fashion wood into expressive pieces that blend together so well. It is not only the profile alludes to a strong illustration of nature; the hints of color also make a statement. Studio Ve cleverly integrated the vibrantly colored ends into the design so they are part overall structure and people can view them from different angles. Additionally, different types of timber ends have been used; there is oak, eucalyptus, mahogany, ash, maple and cherry. The various parts of the furniture are fixed together with special nails, and they can be deconstructed easily. Finally, the ‘endy series’ is very space optimized as the three items can be shifted onto one another like building blocks to free up space.
