Napo: Experience the ‘power’ of nature

Napo stands for a concept that is green and wholesome! It attempts to make use of all the non-conventional energy sources to power a city. These sources are the sun, the rain and the winds. While previous technologies attempted to capture either one of them and improved their efficiencies, Napo captures all of them at once and uses their synergies to generate clean energy. It is mainly an opportunity to turn rain into an energy generating substance. Napo has been developed by Yvonne Chua from the National University of Singapore and François Morrier from Ensci.

Napo

The concept of Napo is a micro-climactic system that combines the might of solar, wind and rain collectors. These capture energy in all kinds of weather because any weather is a combination of various proportions of the above elements. The roof of any building is loaded with a wind turbine. this turbine in turn has solar captors lining its entire surface. This is aligned with the drainpipe. The water turbine there utilizes the rain water to generate electricity.

Thus, all the natural resources of a place could be pooled in to generating power. The energy thus generated and collected is used in the communal areas of the building. Making the concept more absorbing is the color-coded light system that signals to the people as to what energy source is currently being used in the building.
