Much needed urban green space planned for city of Tianjin

Rapidly growing cities are responsible for a large part of pollution levels and environmental degradation. This is to be expected as development comes at a price but the cost has been high enough to warrant attention. Countries like China are seeing rapid growth and large scale development that’s been causing concern, not because of the progress but because of what development has been doing to the environment. Ecowan Project has been conceived to provide green space for the city of Tianjin, to give residents a recreational area that’s removed from dull concrete structures and bring back greenery to the city.Triple-theme green space planned for Tianjin

The project design has been conceptualized by Kalarch Design Group and features a triple-themed green space. It will be located close to New Hangu Center and is primarily aimed at high-tech workers. The project will incorporate educational and recreational activities in the park comprising a Town Center Project in the north-west measuring 15 hectares and a 47-hectare TEDA WIT Riverside Park in the south-east.

The park will be divided into three levels. The City Plaza Layer will act as an extension of the city’s functions with multiuse plazas, public squares, and functional buildings like retail shops, educational facilities and clubhouses. The Urban Park Layer, meanwhile, will contain a majority of the activities for the workers and their families like a children’s playground, a sports park, a jogging and bike route, a historic park, an amphitheater and a botanical garden which will house native plants. The last layer is called Nature and will comprise two sub layers of a working vineyard and a forest zone. The Nature layer will act as a green backdrop for the park and will be situated on a higher topography. The tall groves of trees and geometric patterns found in Northern China’s rural landscape are the inspirations for this layer.
