Milanofiori Residential Complex and Beirut Observatory bag WAN Awards

The WAN awards of 2011 applauded two structures this time – Milanofiori Residential Complex and Beirut Observatory. Both structures have open layouts that blend seamlessly with nature. These are undoubtedly among the best residential edifices designed recently. The agreement for honoring the two was reached unanimously by onsite evaluators as well as other judges. There are many nifty features that made these two structures come out winners.

Milanofiori Residential Complex

A gracefully stylish design with lots of greenery around is what won the Milanofiori Residential Complex brownie points at the competition. The building has an open and spacious layout with houses spread out languidly over the expanse. No unit is ramming into the other. The arrangement of spaces that merge easily with nature gives the structure a refreshing and airy feel. There are gardens as well as balconies inside that have an unrestrained view of parks and gardens. In fact, this clever design by OBR Open Building Research S.r.l. will never make living monotonous as one side of the edifice faces the park while other one has view of the street.

Accent Designs Group’s state of the art Beirut Observatory triumphed in the unbuilt category. Refined frontage and softer angles set apart this tall skyscraper that holds apartments with cantilevered balconies and terraces. The vertically stretched out tower makes optimal use of space and also draws on the strategic location of Beirut, which is situated on a mountain. From the building’s unique positioning, residents will get a panoramic view of the city, sea and surrounding landscape. Shielding you from the weather outside and providing privacy are the shading louvers. The simple design cuts out superfluous fluff, which was loved by the panel.
