Ingenious directors put together waveform model from 960 vinyl pieces

Bringing innovation to music videos, 960 independent pieces of vinyl have been measured, cut and animated with utmost care to create a real-life model of a waveform. The video is for Dubstep artist Benga’s brand new song ‘I Will Never Change’. The video was cleverly directed and masterminded by Us, comprising of Christopher Barret and Luke Taylor, and contains an animated sequence of the 960 pieces of vinyl that create the illusion of a wave form.

960 pieces of vinyl

Creating the video was by no means easy. Complicated and time-consuming, the team of Christopher Barret and Luke Taylor first had to calculate the exact number of records that would be needed for every second of the video. The entire filming process took seven full working days. The procedure included measuring and cutting each individual vinyl piece, hand labeling, numbering and finally adding the finishing touches.

The ingenuity of the video has attracted a lot of attention around the world and more so with Benga fans. The team explained the process of creating the piece by saying that the wave form was animated by building and then carefully removing every individual record. A lot of time, skill and effort were put in to the entire process as a single error with the position could have ruined the animation. If that were to have happened, every single piece of vinyl would have had to have been being destroyed to remove the wrong piece. And as if ensuring the perfection of the sculpture was not enough, the animation process then took a painstaking 30 hours to complete.

The concept of the video is fascinating and the final result is anything but dull and boring. After all, many music videos nowadays more or less use the same idea for creating a piece. Besides, with a concept such as this, Benga’s new single is bound to create a stronger impact on its fans.
