Evolution Gateshead sustainable neighborhood design for the future

Providing futuristic design solutions and landscaping the urban setting for a more sustainable tomorrow is what Studio Egret West specializes in. Its latest project involves planning 3000 new homes for 19 sites across Gateshead. Getting the opportunity of working on this project was not an easy task, Studio Erget West had to struggle for 18 months to finally win client Galliford Try and Home Group’s expectations.

Evolution Gateshead

The 3000 new houses will be featured as a neighborhood on the edge of a revived Gateshead. The first phase of the project would include erecting a freight depot, which would sit in proximity to the Baltic Quarter. In the past the site in fact featured a railways freight station, which will now become the new family housing arena, according to the design projections.

Terraced rows will be arranged as train carriages and they will create distinct streets within the landscape of the city. Public activities will be given a boost by facilitating the surroundings with an area for growing food, for hosting sports activities, joined by a Community Hall. The Hall is adjacent to the sports court and its canopy is powered by photovoltaic cells. Conjoining to all this is a neighborhood food store and also a flexible commercial space.

The apartments will be interlocking duplexes that will make all homes to act as south facing living spaces. These will overlook communal gardens and will provide a spectacular view of the horizon beyond the Newcastle.
