Designer practically creates leather bound journals by just using recycled materials

Our ever expanding sustainable ambit is not necessarily defined by only grandiose eco architectural conceptions or futuristic, low emission automotive technologies. It is a collective scope, where every small yet practical innovation matters in the long run. In this regard, we have come across a contrivance that is not only practical, but also conscientious. Long time ‘recycler’ Emma has astutely crafted a line of quaintly classy looking journals by just using recycled pieces of leather from a Next upholstery sample book.

Recycled leather journals

Coming to their individual ‘specs’, each leather journal comes at a size of around 4.5in x 3.5in, which is apt for their portable factor, especially when carrying them in large pockets and handbags. However, other than just the size, the volume and bearing of a journal also matters for the more diligent users. In this respect, the designer assures us that the leather is of the highest quality with a soft texture, and yet it is hardy enough to withstand the rigors of time. Volume wise, each of the books contain 80 pages (thus, having 160 sides) composed from 160gsm heavy ink capable watercolor paper.

The authentically antediluvian flavor to these journals was upheld by the various hand stitching techniques used by Emma. In fact, she personally utilized the ‘longstitch’ method to affix the pages directly to the leather component. And, as a final finishing touch, the jackets were then bound by leather straps, which in turn were also salvaged from reused parts.
