Designer contrives a vertical garden tower that fuses modernism with psychological impact

There have been very few ‘successful’ instances of architecture replicating the psychological strata of human mind. But, that hasn’t stopped some innovative and ambitious architects from treading this less traveled yet utterly personal design path. In this respect, designer Tyler Julian Johnson has put forth his wondrous vegetation tower conception of what he calls ‘Urban Reflections’.

Urban Reflections

The ‘reflections’ allude to both the mirror image of objects and the deeper meaning of meditation. Visually, the design consists of nearly 500 different components, which are structurally independent and stacked upon each other to form a spiral like shape of the main tower. The exterior facade of this tower is embedded with glass like systems to reflect the local environment, thus insinuating the first meaning of the word.

However, the interior of this uniquely avant garde structure is in stark contrast with the modernism of the exterior. The designer has thought of an expansive vertical garden consisting of more than 23 varieties of plant species, which would drape the inner walls of the tower. So, as the visitor travels upward through the spiraling stairs, it would give a whole new personalized experience interspersed with the beckoning of lush and vivacious landscaping. This in turns hints at the second meaning of reflection, which means deep contemplation.

Finally, coming to the scope of design credibility, the free flowing simplicity of the structure remains one of its definitive signatures. In fact, the individuality of each constructional piece makes the entire ambit modular in its bearing. This means, the planter units can just as easily be disassembled and then recycled for further usage in the future.
