Freestanding glass pavilion in the garden

An all-glass pavilion right in the middle of the garden is a marvelous idea and this simplistic structure will definitely take your breath away. The see-through walls make you feel as if you are sitting in the garden, when in fact you are cozily resting beneath a shelter. The glass walls, transparent windows and folding doors do not break the continuity of the garden that lies outside.

Garden pavilion

Another great thing about making a garden pavilion out of glass is that it does not obstruct the beautiful view of the garden. Any other opaque structure would have been overbearing and way too bulky for a flimsy garden. But this appealing construction is just the opposite. It has been conceptualized by the landscape architect and designer, Konstantinos Dipsanas, who hails from Larisa, Greece.

Structure

A truly remarkable thing about the garden is that absolutely no conventional masonry techniques or standard materials have been used in its construction. Concrete is used only to build the base of the lawn; it has not been used anywhere else in the garden area. The design is very simple and makes use of straight lines and square blocks giving the structure a lightweight look. The strength of this freestanding dome inside the garden has been reinforced using section posts, felt roofing panels and plywood. The orientation has been well thought, and heat insulation has also been provided. In fact, the structure can easily withstand seasonal climatic conditions.

Green quotient

Due to the glass exterior, the structure will not require much heating in winter. The pavilion also supports growth of flora and vegetation during the summer because of the horizontal steel structures built near the doors and windows. Vines and creepers can coil around and grow on them during the hot summer days, thus helping to cool down the house naturally. The trailing plants will shade the house from the harsh sunlight in the summers and when the temperature drops, the all-glass walls will allow sunlight to enter the house, thus warming up the interiors. All this will definitely help to conserve energy simultaneously cutting down your utility bill.
