Podder: A futuristic form of public transport set in Singapore 2020

Once again, we have come across a transportation conception in the form of ‘Podder’, with its conceptualized scope tailored for the future. However, this time the design lends itself that definite essence of credibility fused with sustainable technology. In this regard, the Podder will serve as an electric public transport system for the city of Singapore, in the year of 2020.

Podder by Zelin

Conceived by industrial designer Zelin Ong, the nature of the conception corresponds to the technological and demographic upheaval of Singapore in 2020. With increasing population, the weight of sustainability will be diffused through a societal scale, with more people opting for public transit systems. In such propitious circumstances, the Podder will come as a personalized, ‘intelligent’ transportation device for the everyday man.

When it comes to its low emission electric drive, the Podder utilizes existing railways tracks, as the whole egg shaped mechanism is based on monorail maneuvering. This globular pod, which is also described as the platform, is balanced in its track by an inertial navigation system (INS), consisting of a set of gyroscopes and accelerometer. The whole balancing part in turn is complimented by advanced suspension, for a smooth and safe ride.

Beyond the maneuvering, the Podder is infused with a special interactive system, ingrained in the upper glass ‘windshield’. Activated by a touchscreen, the smart glass enables the adjustment of light induction, along with flexible OLED display and eye tracker mechanism.

Finally, moving on to Podder’s expansive scope, the designer has envisaged a collective system of catering to the public. The contraptions will be stationed in specially built electronic parking facilities, situated close to Singapore’s celebrated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations. In fact, the fare, which is based upon an integrated GPS ambit, is also to be collected by the personnel of MRTs.
