Peterbilt Motors becomes the largest manufacturer of natural gas powered trucks

Texas based Peterbilt Motors Company has always been synonymous with those boisterously built, heavy duty, classic all American trucks. In fact, their celebrated 1997 Model 379 Extended Hood was used as the vehicular ‘avatar’ of Optimus Prime from the Transformers film series. And, now after years of expertise in robust engineering and fuel efficiency features, the exalted automotive company is all set to tread the sustainable path, with their expanding marques of low emission trucks.

Peterbilt Leads the Way in Natural Gas Vehicles

According to sales figures, the company already boasts of the greatest number of truck fleets that run on environmentally friendly natural gas. In fact, there are actually a total of six different energy efficient models; with some of them being showcased at the Mid America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky. In functional terms, the models have been adroitly developed with specific capacities to cater to a wide range of applications.

For example, the sturdy Model 365 equipped with the ISLG, is to be used for heavy applications such as dump and mixer functions. Whereas, the Model 382 furnished with CNG fueling system can be used primarily in regional haul and vocational applications. Other low emission models include 386, 367, 389 and 320.

However, beyond the conscientious credentials of green technology, the newer brands also allude to the consumer related important factor of cost effectiveness. According to Bill Kozek, Peterbilt General Manager, the difference in price between diesel and natural gas fuel is expected to be $1.75 or higher within the next three to five years. So, at the end of the day, it’s not only about lessening carbon footprint, but also concerns the monetary benefits being endowed to vehicle consumers, given our overall state of economy.
