A new life to Renault 4

R4Life Concept Car

You might be aware of Renault 4, which was one of most outstanding cars since 1960s but outdated now. Carlos Arturo Torres is a Colombia based designer, who wanted to bring back this car into the current roads, by revamping the car’s design. In fact, the designer has created a new look to the R4, that gives a new dimension to the vehicle. The changes made to this car are extra-ordinary, and its good to see this car, back with a new concept. If this concept passes all the necessary safety tests and entered into the production segment, definitely this concept will not only mark it’s second birth, but also may become more successful than ever.

Inspiration

Carlos has seen this car since childhood. This car had been one of the most admired and sought after model for more than three decades. The designer felt sad that, though this car had undergone a serious of significant upgrades, it could not survive after 1992. Perhaps, Carlos see these models only in old garages, probably as disposable cars. So, the designer decided to bring this car back, but with a new dimension and style to it. Since the car had already possessed significant changes, it became a very difficult challenge for Carlos to work on this concept. One of the famous industrial designer known as ‘Ross Lovegrove’ inspired Carlos, through his words that, any product would be successful; if they are well designed to capture people’s attentions and hold them connected with the product’s affections. If this bond becomes stronger, day by day, then, the product will never become outdated. Such an inspiring quote made Carlos focus on creating a strong bond between the car and the user, rather than simply modifying the car with latest technologies and features.

Design

Carlos aimed at making this car, as the best companion to the user more than allowing the user to flaunt about it. Regarding the exterior design, Carlos revamped the headlights into a big circular shape, so as to represent them as the eyes of the car.The designer believes that this rounded shape is responsible for bringing a quick attention of the viewers towards it. This round shape also depicts the kind feeling of this car. On the front fascia, moving the Renault’s logo to one side, makes this concept unique and distinct from others. The design of the doors to slide in the opposite directions, on both the sides, is brilliantly implemented by the designer on this concept. This design will further captivate the viewers and emphasizes the vehicle’s exterior look, significantly.

The rear hatch door opens in two segments which boosts the versatility of this concept. Inside the car, the designer has made an innovative method of operating the vehicle’s ignition system. Carlos designed a round knob on the dashboard, that has to be turned for about 90 degrees and pulled out, in order to start the vehicle. This feature not only excites the driver, but also keeps the children away from using the ignition system, unknowingly. Carlos has also proposed an electric system to power the vehicle’s batteries by means of dynamos, that will extract it’s energy from the air-flow, through customized passages. Let us hope that R4 will be feasible to produce and make a thrilling comeback.
