Hybrid Wheels: Lexus plans to target new consumers with a downsized RX SUV

Turning towards the hybrids seems the perfect way to pave a way to the future where we get roads that are completely filled with emission free vehicles. The motivation is already there with both economy and environment encouraging both manufacturers and consumers to take up electric vehicles. Sure the infrastructure needed for such a system is still not fully in place, but with growing EV users, that problem should solve itself. Till then, a hybrid is the perfect way to move forward; a bridge between the all-gasoline pasta and the all-electric future.

Lexus is setting its sights on the Evoque and Q5 with a smaller version of the RX

The Lexus RX SUVs have been hugely popular for a long time now and the RX350 and the hybrid RX 450h have paved a new way forward for Toyota. The Japanese automobile giant has now decided to turn attention from the SUV class and step into the sub-SUV range and take on the likes of Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque and BMW X3. They plan to take them head-on as the plans coming from Toyota indicate the future release of a downsized SUV that will be similar to the Lexus RX and will help Toyota’s market grow further.

Among the little information that is available so far, the one that is most compelling for us (and only naturally) is the fact that this will be a hybrid. Of course that should not surprise anyone considering the lineup that this new vehicle will take on. Not much else is available on the plans Toyota has in store for the hybrid and what kind of power it will come packed with. Price range is rumored to be around £30,000 ($48,000) in the UK. Let us wait for more details to trickle out…
