The environment has been shrieking out about its displeasure and discomfort. Every week, the scientists dig out another fact that vehemently proclaims the reduced immunity of the environment around us. Meetings are being convened all around the world to discuss the issue among the experts and alternate solutions brainstormed upon. Each country has formed a fully functional environment department. The figures are not good and they will keep plummeting until and unless there is social awareness and people look to deviate from the traditional means of fuel and energy and adopt alternate modes- renewable solar energy, water energy and wind energy.
The damage control measures
This does not mean that the population around the globe is not already in the damage control mode. Ways to cut waste and restrict emissions of greenhouse gases have been introduced and promoted far and wide. One of the easiest approaches to do this is to resort to lighting that diminishes the consumption of energy.
Reduce
Use of CFL lights not only condenses energy consumption but also reduces Carbon Dioxide discharge. According to confirmed statistics, CFL’s have been known to consume up to 80% less electricity than the conventional bulbs. Another advantage that they have is they can fit into a regular socket meant for the conventional bulbs and also supply warm lights so that the use of conventional bulbs can be ruled out completely to give way to a more eco-friendly lamp.
Recycle
There are just so many articles in a house that can be reused if a little thought be put to it. The things that might have been considered as waste and lying neglected in the waste basket can be recycled to be used in a completely different way- e.g. a flower vase/wine bottle as a lamp.
Reuse
There are innumerable things in your closet and kitchen that can be reused to decorate or create an ambience. For example, an old scarf, wrapping paper, beads, net, bamboo mats, fabric etc can be very aesthetically used to decorate a lamp shade. This not only crafts that corner of room very extremely creatively but also reflects your personal taste and lends a peek into your personality.
All that is required is a little adventure, a little digging around and a bit of time and you are contributing in your own fabulous way to the betterment of the nearly fragile environment.
The new kid on the block
Keeping in mind these, there is a new eco-friendly lamp on the block. The advent and popularity of CFLs into the common household and everyday use has allowed the companies to rethink upon the design aspects. There have been such amazing and brilliant new concepts that integrate both design and eco friendliness into the products.
Working on the similar lines of design plus eco-friendliness, industrial designer Lenka Czereova has presented a new concept of a solar lamp, which works on renewable solar energy and is capable of changing shapes according to the mood of the user and requirements of the surroundings.
The lamp comes with a tripodal design, equipped with three convertible arms, giving the user the flexibility to change its shape and bring it to use as a floor lamp or a great table. Each of three arms has a bunch of photovoltaic cells that are able to spawn renewable energy to run a battery located in the main body of the lamp. This lets the user use this device even after dark, when the sun has called it a day. The lamp also need not be connected to a power socket.
