Simple ways to Say ‘Thank you Earth’ on Earth Day

Heartiest and greenest congratulations to all the earthlings! Those of you who dare to ask why these wishes are coming across need to relocate to Mars! Friends it’s that time of the year again when we have to get together and celebrate Earth Day. And when I mean celebration, please don’t rush to your refrigerator for your beer cans and chocolates. As a rule, Earth Day is recognized on April 22 to mark the birth of the environmental movement in 1970. So today, you need to pledge to take better care of this planet that we all dwell on. Resolve on what you can and will honestly do to reduce the weight of your impact on the world around you. And please don’t let these resolutions go waste……shrug off that laziness, ignorance and indifference and stand up to make a difference. Nothing should keep you from showing a basic level of respect for the environment that provides you with so much! My point is, today, on Earth Day, you should take a moment to consider what a nice place Planet Earth is and how can you say Thank You Earth! Here are five simple ways to do that –

Conserve energy

Please get habituated to switch off what’s not in use. Don’t rely on the stand-by mode. Appliances like microwaves, TVs, computers, chargers, music players, etc. needs to be off hook when not in use. Finally try to make the best of Sun’s energy; the latest fad is to have gadgets and cars that are powered by sun’s energy.

Reduce, Reuse And Recycle

You’ve heard it before, but it’s still great advice. Manufacturing products produces an average 4-8 pounds of CO2 for every pound of manufactured product.

Leave lesser carbon footprints while traveling

Opt for basic eco friendly vehicles like bicycles. And if a car is inevitable then keep it tuned up and running efficiently. Every day think about how you could reduce the miles you drive. Flying generates a lot of CO2 so just try to opt for other means of traveling long distances.

Eat less meat

If you’re already a vegetarian, you’re saving at least 3,000 pounds of CO2 per year compared to meat eaters. Keep it up! If you’re not ready to take that step, just increase the number of vegetarian meals you eat each week by one or two. Also, poultry is less greenhouse gas intensive than beef.

Grow more trees

Imagine a world with millions of more trees than what we have at present. In such a world, most of the extra carbon dioxide would get absorbed by the trees. At the same time, globally, more trees would mean better rains, cooler climates, and decreased use of air-conditioners and refrigerators. This would reduce the other greenhouse gases as well, leading to reversal of global warming. What a wonderful thing to happen!
