An entire ancient chapel converted to a large musical instrument

In Czech Republic, an entire old chapel is turned to a huge musical instrument, thanks to projection mapping and laser technologies. As the players, better to say, visitors point laser beams on the statues, walls, ledges, pillars and windows of the chapel, they will hear different musical tones. The Olomouc Baroque church of the Czech Republic thus remains a real wonder for visitors.

Old Chapel Is Made into a Giant Musical Instrument

Prague based projection mapping firm Macula has developed this wonderful art installation, called the Archifon I. Up to ten visitors can play music with laser beams at a time. It is quite an overwhelming experience to listen to captivating music as the laser beams move on various features and parts of the church. The church has gabbed large attention from visitors with its matchless music playing capability.

As the laser beams are directed, the angel statues of the church will start singing. More visitors can produce their own vocal polyphonic notes holding the laser pens. Windows represent various instruments. The elements of paintings make different musical motives and sound scapes as pillars act as effect shining sliders. Ledges, relieves and statues produce different tones and music, at the same time.

Archifon utilizes LEDs to emit light from all the structures that are being hit with the lasers. Apart from the music, all parts of the edifice create illumination as well. But the flipside of the entire musical instrument is that it makes use of electricity for LEDs, speakers and the entire installation. In spite of this, the old Olomouc Baroque is a giant musical instrument with every part able to produce scintillating music and glowing.
