One of the biggest challenges in creating a data center is not the space, but the consumption of power. The power consumption is much more as the servers are not the only ones to consume power, but the lion`s share of power consumption is taken up by the coolers that work round the clock to substantially reduce the temperature generated by the entire system.
The latest in eco friendly data centers is located in the Norwegian mountains. The cooling system for this data center is the adjoining Fjord, which supplies water at around 8 degrees Celsius. This data center is built in two phases and is expected to provide 118,000 square feet of space for server accommodation.
The heat that will be generated by this mammoth data center is being expected to be cooled by the adjoining natural Fjord’s water. Thus, the cooling system is entirely natural, thereby not consuming excess power or causing further pollution. Norwegian companies are lining up for space and appreciate the out-of-the-box arrangement. U.S. and European companies are also expected to join the bandwagon to express their concern for the environment as well as promote such green projects for the future.
