Controlled Collapsing serves as cyclic expression of daily routines

One of the entries of the 2012 Evolo skyscraper competition, ‘Controlled Collapsing’ is a skyscraper concept designed by David Giraldeau and Alexandre Guibeault. As explained by the designers, the idea behind the project is that it is a plan which consists on and off levels whose polarity gets matched with human presence. Although, all units are independent but they react coordinated to each other due to a system that allows free movement on a vertical axis, which also makes the compressible quality of the space between the floor slabs possible.

To be more reactive to the surrounding environment and the programmatic inclinations, the modular components as a whole are capable to get organized by taking the advantage of motion. The various configurations are based on a data provided by this huge set of conditions known as urban fluctuations. The skyline can be interrupted in various ways by loose to tight patterns sometimes improving energy efficiency, dealing with contextual sunlight or freeing up ground connections and views.

To certain extent those progressive, continuous and fluid reorganizations set up a clear dialog between the city and the tower by becoming a communication medium. Just like graphical charts, varying statistics are represented by its modulations that can be used to understand solicitations going on. The skyscraper is a recurring expression of daily routines and by categorizing functions, uses and behaviors a part of city’s pulse is revealed by it.
