Texas has long been known as a top oil-and-natural gas-producing state. But now, with the increasing demand for alternative energy, the state too has achieved the top position becoming the nation’s greatest producer of wind energy.
Texas produces 2,370 megawatts of electricity. This amount is capable of powering 600,000 average-sized homes each year! And this places Texas slightly ahead of California — the nation’s leader since 1981. This is released by a midyear report Tuesday by the American Wind Energy Association.
