This amazing timepiece is made by scientist-turned-artist, Bernard Gitton. Placed at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, this water clock offers a unique way of telling time.
The blue globes on the left, in the picture, show the hours and the blue discs on the right show the minutes. The 26.5 feet tall clock uses 70 gallons of a solution of water, methyl alcohol and food coloring. All the liquids used have their own significance — the alcohol prevents algae and fungus from growing inside the pipes and the food coloring allows visitors to see the clock’s functioning more clearly.
