Wind beneath the flame: GE supplies wind power to the Beijing Olympics!

The grandest sporting spectacle of them all really kicked off at Beijing is such a spectacular fashion that it made sure that the entire world sat up and took notice. Say what you may about China and the way it throws its weight around normally, but when it came to hosting the biggest event on the most lavish stage, they just outshone everyone before them with ease. Irrespective of your personal tastes and opinion, the opening ceremony at the Bird’s Nest was one of the most spectacular visuals in human history. But what powers all those lights and the fancy show over the next two months?

If you haven’t seen it yet, take a minute to watch the following commercial from General Electric, which uses some of its turbines to help power the Beijing games. China’s wind generation has increased more than 100 percent per year since 2005, with 20 percent of the power supply directed to venues such as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. GE seems to be playing a major role in all of that and they are obviously making plenty of commercial gains from it all. With considerable amount of wind energy being pumped in to the Olympics, it will be a great boost for the renewable energy market world over.

Even if you are not such a great eco-fan and happen to stumble over this by mistake then I still suggest you to take a minute out and see the video of the ad. It really is a wonderful ‘spin’ on the right usage of wind energy!
