Eco Factor: Methane from old landfill to generate up to 2MW of electrical power.

Volkswagen is looking forward to possible use of methane gas from a closed landfill to power its auto assembly plant in the city of Chattanooga in Tennessee. The gas can be used to generate up to 2MW of electrical power each day. The automaker is working out details of the plan with the city authorities.

If the plan is approved, the initiative will allow Volkswagen to use renewable energy to power a portion of the assembly plant and also gain points toward its LEED status. Moreover, the plan will help the city use a resource that is currently flamed off.
