US homes set to consume least possible electricity

IBM, Whirlpool and the U.S. Department of Energy are currently undertaking GridWise studies in 300 homes of Washington State and Oregon for a cleaner, more energy-efficient future for the nation and lower bills for consumers.

It will be achieved by warning users when they have exceeded their quoted amount of energy set to be used in their homes with pricing information on their energy usage/costs so that they will be able to adjust accordingly thereby saving money this way.

Secondly, the volunteers will get high-tech Sears dryer made by Whirlpool that automatically switches off its heating element for a few minutes whenever it detects instability in the power grid.

By investing $1.5 million on the project the nation could eventually save consumers up to $80 billion in 20 years.
