DaimlerChrysler launches fuel cell powered police car

DaimlerChrysler has rolled out its first fuel cell-powered police vehicle. One of the first users of the Mercedes F-Cell is the Wayne State University Police Department of Detroit. DaimlerChrysler has spent more than $1 billion in fuel cell vehicle research and development.

The Mercedes F-Cell is of course a reflection of DaimlerChrysler’s leadership in fuel cell technology. F-Cell has a range of approximately 100 miles and can touch a maximum speed of 85 mph. Due to the fact that the electric motor develops 88 hp (65 kW) and it enables acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 16 seconds. The stack has been developed by Ballard Power Systems, the cooperation partner of DaimlerChrysler.

It’s been more than a decade when DaimlerChrysler pioneered fuel cell vehicle technology. This technology operates at a high level of efficiency and stands zero-emissions.
