Palmas, the capital and geographic centre of the state of Tocantins, is one of the fastest expanding cities in Brazil. It is known for its urban planning and natural beauty. Urban Recycle Architecture Studio has come up with a unique building design for the city. The design is proposed for an area of 50 x 22m, a corner space covered by vegetation. The colors, textures, and climate of the surroundings have been taken into account while proposing the design for the building.

The building was proposed with an area of 3780m². It has been designed in a way that the construction can be done quickly, and expansion is possible at any stage. The development of the plan involved vertical and horizontal structural systems. The two blocks are integrated through foyer and lounges. The building has been imagined keeping various eco-friendly factors in mind. The construction of building involves the use of low environmental impact materials such as steel, wood and BriseSoleis of terracotta.

The concept involves a rainwater capturing system on the roof, which can be used for cleaning and gardening purposes. Plant coverings will be used to decrease the interior temperature of the building while solar panels will reduce energy costs. The building will have large openings that enable natural ventilation and access to natural ventilation. Use of facade with brise-soleils has been proposed for rain protection and reducing direct sunlight. Plants will be replanted in the vicinity of the building to assist microclimates. The colors have been chosen wisely, with each color symbolizing something. The orange, green, and blue colors represent living earth, vegetation of Tocantins, and sky, respectively. The city of Palmas is known for strategic planning and the design aptly seems to consider this factor. It proposes a sustainable architecture that is unique and extensible.
