Jamaica and Cuba joined hands on joint energy saving project. The two countries distributed 30,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to households. And it was last week, the South African government with a bid to to cut down on the area’s energy demands, announced they would be handing out 500 million CFL bulbs to households in Cape Town.
Capable of using up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs, CFL bulbs can last up to five years and have been widely available in the U.S. for many years. Since, standard CFLs aren’t appropriate for all applications, like dimmers and three-way switches, Greenlite, Westinghouse, Maxlite and GE have recently started manufacturing dimmable CFLs and CFLs designed for use with three-way switches.
