Rural China to get natural disaster monitor network

flood devastated china

The rural areas of China witness 80 percent of deaths and destruction of 2 million homes every year caused by natural and weather disasters like — drought, torrential rains, typhoons and landslides. To cut such natural disaster-triggered casualties, the country needs to strengthen its forecasts in these areas.

As a solution to this, China has planned to build more natural disaster observation stations in the rural areas over the next five years. It will also be setting up a network of precision weather stations that would cover 90 percent of the country’s countryside, allowing local governments issue earlier natural disaster-warnings in rural areas. This network will also improve the ability to forecast where disasters might occur.
