Eco Factor: Vans powered by biogas generated by sewage treatment plants.

The streets of Sheffield will soon see vans powered by biogas generated from the raw sewage treatment process. The city council hopes to reduce its carbon footprint, while encourage the practice of sustainable motoring. The gas required to power these eco-friendly vans will be supplied by Kelda Water and its sister company Yorkshire Water.

Kelda Water stated that the technology is still new to the UK and has been shown to have considerable potential to power green cars. If the trail on six vans is successful, the city council will be using bio-methane as a power source.
