Paris’ Energy Plus: Greenest office spaces in the world?

energy plus paris the greenest office in the world

The city of eternal love, i.e. Paris will soon have one of the ‘greenest’ office blocks set in the world. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP, the Chicago-based architectural and engineering firm plans to construct ‘Energy Plus’ in the dilapidated area of Gennevilliers in the outskirts of Paris.

According to the firm, ‘Energy Plus’ will perhaps, be the most environmentally friendly office spaces in the world! Patrick Getreide is leading the ‘Energy Plus’ project with his partner. ‘Energy Plus’ claims to become the first building in the world to be carbon-zero. This 70,000-square-meter building is expected to house up to 5,000 people and will produce enough of its own electricity to power all the heating, lighting, and air conditioning required by tenants.

Patrick Getreide is of the opinion that unlike what most people think, cars are not the worst environmental polluters, it’s the buildings. In France alone, 47 percent of pollution comes from real estate, 33 percent is from industry and 23 percent comes from cars.

So, now you can understand why it is so imperative to build more and more sustainable buildings. Though expensive to build, in the wider interest of the environment and our future generations, one hopes that such buildings get adequate financial support from high-profile backers as well as the government.
