William McDonough’s energy-efficient tower of the future

Imagine living in a building which actually imitates nature. The day is not far off when we will actually be able to live in a building that not only looks stunningly beautiful from the exterior, but can also make oxygen, distill water, produce energy, and changes with the seasons. A building which is almost like a tree! Almost like biomimicry.

Biomimicry is the science that studies nature, its models, systems, processes and elements and then tries to imitate or take inspiration from it to make our planet a little more environment friendly.

Such a prototype design has been made by William McDonough, founder and principal of William McDonough & Partners, when Fortune Magazine invited his firm to create such a design. For those who are not aware, William McDonough is the person who built the first solar-powered house in Ireland way back in 1977 and was entitled “Hero of the Planet” in 1999 by the Time magazine.

If you are interested and would like to know more then do make a trip to Abu Dhabi, where this concept will be on display at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) from January 21-23.
