Nanosolar to produce cheaper solar power

When on one hand the world is burning with the soaring oil prices, more and more people chose to shift to alternative sources of energy. But, keeping aside the environmental concerns, if one does not find a relief to his purse, adapting an alternative source – how does it add a meaning to the shift!

Along with the growing global warming concerns, a young company seems to have considered the other factor too. Nanosolar has recently received a fund of $100 million for increasing its production of solar panels at a lower cost.

The company’s CEO Martin Roscheisen said,

Cost is the company’s primary weapon… Rather than producing solar cells made out of rigid silicon, the company has come up with a way to embed CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-selenium) into thin polymer films. Ultimately, a solar panel from Nanosolar will cost about one-fifth to one-tenth the cost of a standard silicon solar panel, and expanding factory capacity will be easier…
