1. PROJECT7TEN, Venice, CA

Designed by GRAYmatter Architecture founder Melinda Gray, the PROJECT7TEN is a green home which is still under construction. Located in Venice, CA, the home is expected to get completed in the fall. Gray said that everyone would be allowed to tour this building once it gets completed. The home will also be available for sale. Gray is hopeful that the home will get the LEED Platinum certification, which is given to the green home. The home features an advanced rainwater reclamation system with grey water recycling facility. The home is made of recyclable materials available in the local markets. It features FSC-certified lumber. The solar panels are fitted on the rooftop and shading is done using native landscaping. The appliances used in this home are Energy Star.

2. MKLOTUS, San Francisco, CA

Michelle Kaufmann Designs has designed the MKLOTUS, a modern green home. ExtremeHomes is building this home located in San Francisco, CA. This completely green home was unveiled at San Francisco’s West Coast Green in 2007 from September 20-22. The home features a green living roof with solar panels to trap and harness solar energy. It has advanced groundwater and rain catchment system. The home also features grey water system. Extremeomes has used FSC-certified wood to do the framing of this green home. Wall assembly is done using SIP wall assembly and cell foam insulation is open and done by Icynene. The home features Noritz water heater. The glass door walls of this home are foldable. Yolo has done the beautiful bamboo flooring of this home. Yolo has not used any VOC paints. Whole home features LED lighting. The home features Energy Star appliances. Concreteworks has supplied the countertops of this home. Floor and wall features recycled glass tiles. The home features Kohler’s water-efficient fixtures.

3. 5IVE, Minneapolis, MN

This modern green home is designed by John Dwyer. He teaches at University of Minnesota and is the founder of Shelter Architecture. Dwyer was hired by Jeff and Saleno Gallo to design this green home name 5IVE. The home is eco friendly because precast concrete walls are used to make the frame of this beautiful building. The r-value of the concrete walls is in the 30s. This home features a highly efficient heating and cooling systems. Dwyer claims that the home is constructed using only green materials. Products, appliances and fixtures used in this home are eco friendly. The makers are hopeful that this home will receive LEED Platinum certificate.

4. LIVINGHOMES RK1, Santa Monica, CA

LIVINGHOMES RK1

LIVINGHOMES RK1 is a modern green home located in Santa Monica, California. This green home has Platinum LEED-H rating given by USGBC. The LIVINGHOMES RK1 is a completely green home because it uses zero renewable energy and does not emits carbon and other harmful gases at all. This green home managed to receive 91 points out of 108 points to get the Platinum rating. The efficiency of this green home 80% more than the conventional homes of the similar size. This home is made of green materials. The solar panels are fitted on the roof of this home, which also features radiant heating system. The heating system is fitted within the floor. The home also features grey water system and LED lighting. The glass countertops are of EnviroGlas recycled.

5. HEATHER’S HOME, Weatherford, TX

HEATHER’S HOME – Weatherford, TX

GGO Architects’ designer Gary Olp deserves credit for designing HEATHER’S HOME, a modern green home. Located in Weatherford, Texas, the Heather’s Home is one of the few residential places in the US with LEED-H Platinum certification. This 2,038 square foot home was built at a cost of $117 per square foot. The average per month heating and cooling bill of this home is around USD 30. The solar panels are fitted in the roof. This home features an advanced system to collect rainwater.
