Eco Factor: Newly discovered molecule helps store heat in the form of a fuel.
MIT hits the nail yet again by discovering a molecule that could be used best to store solar power. Called the Fulvalene Diruthenium, the tiny particle consists of two aromatic carbon rings, and transition metal which can act as a molecular heat battery instead of currently used molten salt, which isn’t very efficient. The compound according to the researchers stores heat in the form of a fuel. It can get as hot as 200 degrees C and yet remain stable over long periods. The reversible compound could be used anywhere, and could be heated and placed back in the sun to recharge as well.
