Italy: World’s First Hydrogen-Fired Power Plant!

from the venice lagoon 9Venice will soon see the world’s first industrial scale hydrogen-fired power plant. It will be built by the Veneto Region and Italian energy company ENEL.

The new plant will be located next to ENEL’s coal-fired Fusina plant, in the Porto Marghera industrial area on the Italian mainland across from the Venice lagoon. The project with 40 million euros investment by ENEL will take five years to complete.

The Veneto Region for research and development will pay more than four million euros in supporting its research and development.

The project will be developing zero-emission hydrogen combustion power generation systems. It will also develop innovative hydrogen production technologies and coal and biomass power generation systems.

Hydrogen will also be accumulated in systems in an innovative way.
