sullivan county logo2 9What will you do with the Christmas tree you purchase for the big day celebration? Leave it to dry and add on to the landfill, just to add on as garbage? Why not recycle it! Here is the Sullivan County Division of Solid Waste ready with better tips.

It is encouraging county residents, businesses and visitors to recycle their Christmas trees as the holiday season ends. If you have access to back yards and open spaces, then place your retired Christmas trees there. It will offer welcome cover for birds and wildlife during the winter months, according to officials.

But, if you don’t have access to open space, just take your trees to the Sullivan County Landfill or Recycling & Transfer Stations to dispose it for free!

But what will the Sullivan County Stations do with the trees?

The employees at the station will be chipping the trees to incorporate them for use in the county’s new compost program. Or, otherwise they will use them as mulch in county parks, landscaping and beautification projects. The division also plans to conserve valuable landfill space and enhance the county appearance with this holiday tradition.
