Here comes the relief, a smart-to-the-point plug, with integrated motion sensor, which can sense when the electronic devices are not in use.

So, a few years from now, you need not bother whether you forgot a light or fan on when you are out. The integrated motion sensor can switch off any device that has been left on in an empty room. Not only this, you can keep a track of power consumption by each individual electronic device. In case you don’t want this plug to work with a certain device, just switch it back on and the sensitive plug would not interrupt with your power usage.

Dr John Woods, University of Essex, Colchester, who is busy researching, now on making a central point of control for all households’ related electronic devices, is quite confident about this project. According to him, by checking the power each device uses, one can easily cut down on power usage and hence reduction in power bills.

With cries all over the world to cut down power bills, this plug, which is supposed to cost around £1. Though under testing in iSpace Department, Essex University, this plug is expected to be soon fitted to common domestic appliances and easily available in the market. With an award from the Carbon Connections Development Fund, a green initiative University of East Anglia, this plug is quite a hit already.

Seems quite like a useful device, though snapping it off when you don’t need it may turn out to be an impediment. However, it will save you from numerous headaches of forgetting to switch off devices when you go on trips, with your power saver plug on!
