In the age of modern building construction, innovation seems to be the keyword on everyone’s lips. Architects are constantly pushing the boundaries of impossibility and coming up with newer and better designs that leave us breathless every single time. One such concept of brilliance seems to be the Spiral Garden Museum. The brainchild of Paris based Influx Studios, the design of the Spiral Garden Museum has been submitted for the grand prize of being selected as the new Taipei City Museum. Seated in the capital of Taiwan, this design will redefine the standards of design in the city and perhaps the world itself.
The basic structure of the building includes a spiraling walkway that is as tastefully artistic as it is in touch with nature, considering the greenery of the park surrounding the building. The corkscrew building has five floors, and the floor area increases as we ascend towards the top. The building is centered on the basic idea of a walkway lining the facade of the museum enabling people to climb to the top by taking the spiraling path.
The reason the museum is termed as a “spiral garden” is because ascending from the bottom floor, the spiraling walkways are lined with a garden strip that extends till the top floor. The garden as well as the pathway ends by opening up to the roof which has been designed as an open art terrace. Nature mingles well with architecture and the building has a nice green touch to it, thanks to the spiral garden and its perfect model of sustainability. The museum will include a rain water filter and collector, green roofs, solar protection, protection for the flood prone areas near the base and geothermal energy collection facilities, all the while accommodating the rich biodiversity the garden promises to cultivate.
According to the released plans, the Spiral Garden Museum has 5 floors and ascending from the first floor towards the top, the floors will house a children’s museum of art, an art gallery mall, a contemporary museum of art and the skyline terrace. The ground floor will be used for educational purposes as necessary. The Spiral Garden Museum, if it is chosen, may turn out to be one of the newest wonders of the modern world and will reshape the cultural identity of Taipei as we know it.
