Since IBM is famous as a multinational computer firm, it comes as a clean surprise to know that they have been working on re-sourcing their energy wastes in to something beneficial. Teaming with GIB-Services, they have announced a new energy efficient “green” data center at a former military bunker outside of Zurich. The heat generated from this plant will be directed to a public swimming pool in the town. Expected to create 2,800 megawatts of wasted heat per year when operating at full capacity, it is the same amount of energy needed to supply up to 80 houses with heating and warm water for one year. In order to repurpose some of this previously wasted energy, the town is looking to the needs of local civilians thus ensuring a comfortable temperature for swimming in the town pool. So people who will work at this IBM center can be free of (pollution) guilt and pompously go for a dip in warm water after a hard days work.
