Ford Motor Company has announced that the company has signed an agreement with Azure Dynamics, whereby Azure will integrate its plug-in hybrid technology in Ford’s F-Series Super Duty trucks. The technology will initially be made available on F-550, which will hit the market in early 2013.
According to the agreement, Azure can provide plug-in hybrid powertrain conversion on all existing configurations of Ford’s F-350 and F-550 trucks. Azure Dynamics has stated that roughly two-thirds of the plug-in hybrid system will be applicable for use in Ford’s super duty trucks and the remaining one-third will need to be powertrain specific. Azure can also sell the converted hybrid trucks through Ford’s Commercial Truck dealerships in North America.
