FLOS presents the world’s first product made of bioplastic by bio-on

Bio-on, one of the most prestigious and authoritative Italian company in collaboration with FLOS; a brand well known for its originality, familiarity and universality, recently showcased the world’s first product made with PHAs, a bioplastic, which is completely biodegradable in water at ambient temperatures. Miss Sissi, the FLOS lamp, is the first product that is designed in the process of testing this innovative material and the result is an innovative, completely biodegradable lamp that is now a representative of an ideal lighting design.

FLOS First Company to Use Revolutionary Bioplastic

bio-on has been recognized to built up new materials in the modern biotechnologies sector and has earned a lot of fame in the same, later it intended to produce naturally biodegradable plastic, initially from sugar beets, but today it is also made from sugar cane, which is usually used to produce edible sugar or bio fuels. This thought of making plastic from sugarcane is highly inventive as, it is for the first time that, PHA is acquired from sugar cane juices or from its by products and not from oils or cereal starches just like the other polymers available in the market. PHA biopolymer is radical, as it is made up of waste materials and not from other food products. Additionally, Miss Sissi, which was initially made up of polycarbonate, passed the test with this new bioplastic and is presented today as a completely innovative FLOS lamp.

This new plastic can further be used to make a wide range of other objects and can successfully substitute the routine products that are highly polluting and made from petroleum, which is at present being used to produce bottles, food packaging, packaging film and electronics. The maximum use of these biopolymers, by all the sectors currently using plastic, will soon become a boon for the environmentally friendly production.
