Eco Factor: Zero carbon island powered by wind, solar and waste energy.
Designers at EFFEKT have unveiled plans to transform the 2200 hectare Gaedeokdo Island in South Korea into a sustainable, zero carbon island that can serve as a modern maritime leisure zone. The development illustrates an ambitious strategy for urban mass tourism development, which ensures sustainability and spatial qualities.
The development preserves the natural flora, while transforming the area into a maritime leisure zone, interweaving urban development and recreational landscapes. An ambitious energy strategy combining wind, sun and waste energy helps power the entire complex. Moreover, the designers have also included designs for an efficient public transportation system making a foundation for the development of a futuristic carbon neutral island.
