Eco Factor: $1.5 million solar project to power offices and homes.

T’Sou-ke First Nation has launched the largest solar power project in British Columbia, which will generate enough power to energize its band office, fisheries buildings, canoe shed and 25 homes on the reserve. T’Sou-ke First Nation’s solar power project is based on the use of solar panels to pre-heat hot water and photovoltaic panels to create electricity and end spending on expensive hydro power.

The community has trained nine residents in solar power installations, so that other facilities can also follow in their footsteps. Costing $1.5 million, the project will be the largest in British Columbia and was officially launched Friday July 17.
