Eco Factor: A hybrid charger for wireless sensors of critical systems.

Wireless sensors provide much valued information about various physical and environmental conditions of our planet. Be it the amount of CO2 in the air, the temperature of our planet, the pressure changes, etc., all need wireless sensors, which have to be placed in areas where there is no scope for grid electricity. The solution to this problem till now was to power these sensors with batteries. This solution not only proves to be cost-inefficient but discharged batteries pose a serious threat to the environment.

Midé Technology is all set to roll out a different kind of charger with which they hope to power wireless sensors at lesser cost and more ecological sense. The company has rolled out a hybrid charger dubbed the Volture Vibration and Solar Energy Harvester. As specified in the name itself, the device can convert vibration and solar energy to electricity to supply power to the sensors. The company had earlier launched a product named Volture Vibration Energy Harvester, but soon they realized that vibration is not the only form of green energy that can be tapped. To improve things a bit, the company added a solar panel on the cover of the Vibration Energy Harvester to get more out of the same device.

The company, however, has no plans to stop there, as they are already working on a new model of the device, which would be capable of tapping even more forms of ecofriendly energy sources. The 3.625 X 1.725 X 0.56 inch charger comes at a price of $499.

The Dark Side:

Considering the dimensions of the charger, we have to say that these devices will be unsuitable for small wireless sensors that require lightweight and more efficient power sources.
