Eco Gadgets: ShowerDrop saves water by cutting down the shower time

Eco Factor: Device times showers to prevent any wastage of water.

There cannot be anything as relaxing as a warm shower after a hectic day at the office, but doing so you are not only eating into the fresh water reserves of the planet, but also increasing your carbon-footprint in the process. All the water that you waste during your shower needs to be brought to the surface before it can be filled in your home tanks, making use of electricity for pumping.

This cool gizmo promises to save water expenditure by timing your shower and alerting you once it thinks that you have had enough. The makers of this device say that an average person uses 80 liters of water for a simple bath. Those figures swell if the person is using an electric or a power shower. The device costs £10-12 and is available at Nigel’s Eco Store.

The Dark Side:

Timing a shower is good, but considering how lazy we get when we are relaxing, I don’t feel that just a beep from a small gizmo will make me turn the tap off. If the device could have done the same for me, I would have given it a thumb up.
