Eco Factor: Bluetooth hard drive powered by solar energy.
When too much data fills our internal hard drives, we look for external alternatives. The external drive alternatives on the market only add to the power consumption of the system, but now if the ‘Light’s Reminiscence’ by Tryi Yeh becomes a reality, we could have external solid state drives that are powered by the sun.
The designer has come up with a new SSD that integrates Bluetooth technology for easy transfer between the system and the disk, and all those electronics run without consuming a single watt of power from the grid. The system carries a layer of solar cells which capture sunlight and store it in batteries for indoor use.
In addition to the use of solar panels to pull down the amount of energy consumed by a conventional SSD drive, the Light’s Reminiscence is also made from recycled wood, which itself is a carbon neutral product.
