Eco Gadgets: ‘Chairman’ Smartphone from Ulysse Nardin makes you forget your wristwatch

Eco Factor: Smartphone charged by kinetic energy.

The need to go green has already encouraged conventional mobile phone manufacturers including Samsung, LG and ZTE to launch ecofriendly mobile phones at the MWC 2009. Now this green drive is tempting others, including luxury watch maker Ulysse Nardin, to develop a luxurious smartphone that caters to the environment as well.

The “Chairman,” as the phone has been named, carries a bunch of diamonds and gold trim, but what makes it green is the use of a rotary winder mechanism that can be rotated to charge the phone’s battery. The company claims that the smartphone will come with features never seen before in a smartphone, and we know that it will also burn huge holes in your pocket.

The Dark Side:

The technology behind the phone does show a way phones can be charged with renewable energy. However, like all luxurious products, this one too doesn’t cater to the needs of the common man.
