Restaurant Aan Zee by Emma Architects

Aan Zee is the ultimate restaurant designed by Emma Architecten. Shipping containers are used for its construction. It is the perfect example of solar and wind generation with beautiful ocean waters in front. The building of this restaurant exhibits all required information about the Dutch countryside, which surrounds it. The walls are made from wooden material and raised from sand dunes. To add beauty, wood is layered and mounted on the front side. A glass in front provides maximum light and best views. The third wall is made from several shipping containers.

A solar system is mounted on the roof of the restaurant. At the top of it a wooden rain screen is placed just to protect it from weather and sun. The guests can climb on top of arched watchtower.

Aan Zee is energy efficient and quite effectively saves energy by using efficient appliances and lighting. Solar panels and windmills are used for generating electricity. The cooling and heating is administered by geothermal wells by using natural convection system for ventilation. The seasonal and regional food is made on grills and stoves.

No separate sewage connection is required in this restaurant as the dunes are used to soak water from rain and the waste water is managed in Helofytenveld. The building of restaurant can easily dismantled and reused if required. The material can be recycled at any pint of time.
