Eco Factor: Jewelry items made from recycled plastic bottles.
We’ve seen plastic bottles being converted to Christmas trees and lamps in the past, but Kumvana Gomani’s artwork is nothing short of stunning. The artist converts trashed soda and water bottles into nature-inspired jewelry bearing shapes of snowflakes and crystalline leaves to radiate green chic bling.
After collecting kitchen trash, Gomani cleans, cuts and strips the plastic material into tiny snowflakes and leaves. Drilling small and neat holes through these forms and then joining them together into brilliant shapes finalizes the recycling process.
The Dark Side:
The designer does make sure that plastic is not sent to conventional recycling centers, which sadly consume more energy than what they save. However, the jewelry seems too delicate and once broken it might have the same fate as the bottles from which it was made.
