Eco Factor: Sustainable skyscraper to purify contaminated water of Ciliwung River in Jakarta.

Jakarta was originally designed as a water city where 13 rivers crossed the city, which were utilized as a source of livelihood by the citizens. However, today the Ciliwung River has become a disaster for the citizens as a surge of water flooded the city, and the number of slums along the riverbanks adds a new problem, namely the pollution of the watershed’s surroundings.

The Ciliwung Recovery Program (CRP) by Rezza Rahdian, Edwin Setiawan, Aayu Diah Shanti and Leonardus Chrisnantyo aims to purify the river using renewable energy. There are three main lines in the process of purifying the river – in the first stage polluted water is made to enter the building using a network of pipes by utilizing capillary vessel systems. At this stage river water is separated from garbage.

The second stage eliminates the dangerous contaminants and adds various good minerals to water, making it safe for the daily needs of the CRP building occupants. The third line is the re-processing of household waste products into water which is safe to be returned to the river. The self-sufficient building generates energy for itself, including the use of passive technology systems in the building.

The skin of the building doubles as a renewable energy generator, where the outer layer, which receives a large amount of wind, generates wind power using wind generators. For solar power, the building features a gigantic solar reactor at the top.
