One of the cleanest debris sites in the state of Utah

Most of us have heard about filthy rubble sites with foul smelling surroundings and hovering eagles. But, how many of have heard of clean construction debris site? Well imagining such a possibility is rather vague, but we will give a concrete example of such a site in the Salt Lake City, Utah. In order to make way for the City Creek Center, a sizable amount of debris from old and demolished shopping malls and buildings was piled up alongside I-80 service road at 7200 West. This site is owned by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and they are in the discussion to use this fill material for an old dump.

The site cleaning process had begun a long time ago when downtown buildings were demolished. Anything salvage that was beset as usable was taken and reused and the rest were left on site. Tons of steel was recycled into rebar and used for the construction of new buildings. It was this debris that was hauled besides the service lane; it consisted of concrete, dirt and rocks.

Many times the rebar was removed from the site and concrete converted into smaller chunks for reuse. The church has already put across a request to leave this fill in place as a future asset. Their only concern is they will not like the piles of concrete to lie there for an indefinite span of time. The final aim of the church is to get the debris spread out in contours for stabilizing the land.
